Hüttenabend

Up through the woods the torches go.
Towards the cabin deep in snow
We slowly climb.

There, far from worry, time and space,
Of homeland, love and human grace
We sing our songs.

The sleeping forest all around
Is slowly ‘wakened by the sound,
As breaks the spell.

Away from fire and candles bright,
Far through the frozen starlit night
Our music flies.

Oh, nights of singing, wine and stars
When‚ ‘round the fire, from many shores,
We brothers are!

The night grows late, we homewards go
Back to the other world we know,
Bis nächster mal!

Camelot

Camelot

Camelot-2Deep in the valleys of unfolding time,
Beyond the hills of doubt lay Camelot.
Its towers rose above the forest oaks,
Its spires and banners caught the morning sun.
Inside the walls, around the warrior king,
The knights and scholars gathered,
each one pledged
To help the weak, to mortify the proud
And right and love, defend and glorify.

Traveller

We are, forever,
Sighting, approaching
Or retreating from
Unexplored shorelines.
Footprints on sandbanks
Seeking higher land,
Fresh tracks on shingle
Downwards through gullies
Out to waiting seas.
Unfinished journeys,
Always casting off,
Never arriving…
New conquistadors
Watching for omens,
Birds, constellations,
Driftwood on currents,
Voices in the wind.
Each successive shore
Spread more seductive
Than the one before,
But no abiding
Haven for the heart,
Still less for the mind.
At the tide’s turning,
Anchors are lifted,
Islands receding
To hazy horizons,
Leaving images
No more permanent
Than spray in the wake
Of dawn caravels.
